Project Managment & Product Development

Sample Video:

A discussion of management practices useful in the development of physical products, IT products, capital projects and services.  Begins with defining project parameters, such as defining product features from customer input (surveys and thought leaders) and benchmarking competitors.  Also included are project management options such as gated vs iterative development and modular design.  The discussion proceeds to a look at common cultural challenges such as the “not invented here” phenomenon.  Various management tools are then identified such as Gantt and “stoplight” charts.  Issues of working with suppliers are also examined.  Concludes with some basic tips on product design such as robust design, fault tolerant design, common parts and mean time between failures.

Relevant Audience: Primarily project managers and product planners, but also senior managers who make decisions regarding development as well as professionals who carry out development (engineers, scientists, programmers, service staffs and construction crews).
