Many businesses employ consultants, but the only view they may receive on how consulting works and how consultants do (or don’t) provide value is from the consulting firms themselves.  This is a one-sided view.  The purpose of this presentation is to help businesses gain a more balanced perspective of consulting so they may use consultants more effectively (or choose to not use us at all).  Subjects covered include identifying the different types of consulting, identifying the different reasons to use consultants, selecting consultants, and managing consulting engagements.  Also covered are the potential pitfalls and perverse incentives of consulting.  Finally, the structure of major consulting firms are examined, which benefits not only potential clients but also those considering a career in consulting.
