The Principal-Agent Problem is the textbook description of problems that occur when someone who is hired (the agent) to act in the interest of their employer (the principal) has interests that are imperfectly aligned or contradict (“conflict of interests”) those of their employer. This presentation identifies scenarios where a business professional may encounter these problems, uncovers what those differing interests may be and offers suggestions to mitigate them. Principal-Agent relationships discussed include employer/employee, partnerships, investment advisors, bankers, lawyers, brokers, business advisors, booking/talent agents and consultants.
Relevant Audience: General managers, business owners, professionals with responsibility for overseeing third parties or anyone who works through the agents described.
